About the Department:
            Radiation Oncology is the youngest field of medicine which evolved after the discovery of X-Rays in 1895. Department of Radiation Oncology was started in Government Villupuram Medical College & Hospitals as a super-specialty department to help the rural population for the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Services Offered:
            The victory in the war against the cancer lies in the diagnosis of the cancer at an early stage. Department of Radiotherapy at Government Villupuram Medical College & Hospital is providing the screening, diagnostic services for the cancer and performing all the staging workup & giving chemotherapy as per international guidelines. Pain and Palliative Care service is being provided for the cancer patients.
      Department is registered with the Hospital Based Cancer Registry Program (HBCR) of Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for having the cancer registry statistics.

            Department of Radiotherapy helps in implementing cancer welfare programmes like Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, Chief Minister’s UzhavarPaathukaapuThittam for the financial assistance of cancer victims.
Proposed Services:

  1. Telecobalt machine has been sanctioned by the government and the radiation treatment service will be started in the proposed new Cancer Block in the near future. The construction work for the radiation block bunker is underway.
