DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY is  functional from the time of Govt.Villupuram Medical College was inaugurated in the year 2010.

PERIODIC ACTIVITIES IN THE “DISSECTION HALL:
 
We are having Four cadavers under Dissection.
Students wear gloves during Dissection.
Bio - medical wastes following Dissection of cadavers is kept in corresponding “Colour Coded Bin”.
Doctors , Dissection Hall Attendants , Students were Trained “regarding Bio-Medical Waste Segregation and  disposal methods.
The Segregated Bio-Medical Waste is stored in corresponding “Colour Coded Bin”. is sent to “Department of Bio – Medical Waste Disposal” in corresponding“ColourCoded Bin” ,.and this
Bio-medical waste is sent to“Department of Bio-medical Waste Management”.
 
Biomedical waste segregation method “chart” is mounted in the wall of Dissection Hall  showing the

1. A “SPECIAL MOPPING TECHNIQUE” is followed to ensure thorough Cleaning of the Dissection Hall Floor.
2. Stainless Steel Dissection Table is cleaned daily
      Using Lysol in water / Formalin then dried with paper.
 
Thus Dissection Hall Table & Floor is
kept “VERY CLEAN”.
 
     3. ELECTRICITY” is saved by “NOT SWITH ON” the Fans,Tube lights  at unwanted areas of the Dissection Hall.
A board written as “SAVE ELECTRICITY “ is mounted on the wall of the Dissection Hall.
Thus ELECTRICITY is  SAVED.
 
4. We have  “FIRST AID KIT in the  Dissection Hall  for Emergency Measures.

 COLD STORAGE ROOM
    
  It is attached to Dissection Hall.
  It contains 12- Freezer boxes.

 USE OF FREEZER BOX :
 
 To keep the Fresh bodies before Embalming – - -
When the Bodies are receieved very late in working hours)
 
  EMBALMING ROOM
    
It is attached to the Dissection Hall.
 
It contains i) Room for Embalming the Unclaimed Bodies as well  as Bodies of Voluntary Body Donors.
                   ii) Three tanks :
                     a)One large tank to Store Embalmed full Bodies
                     b) Two  small tanks:
     First one to store Embalmed Limbs.
     Second one to store Embalmed Trunks.
 
Weekly Removal of Fat from all the Three Tanks is done.
 
Floor is washed first in Running water then
cleaning  with Lysol in water    
 
Thus the Three Tanks &  this Embalming room is also kept
very clean”.
                                
WASH  AREA:
 
It is attached to Dissection Hall containing elbow turned tap with sink to wash hands and instruments after the dissection is over.
 
Daily cleaning of the Sink and the Elbow turned tap with water followed by  cleaning  with Lysol / Formalin.
 
Daily cleaning of the floor with Running water followed by  cleaning  with Lysol in water.
 
Thus wash area is kept Very Clean”.

We have Museum having

                (i)  X-rayed Sheets of various parts of the body
                (ii) CT-Scan of various parts of the body
               (iii) MRI-Scan of various parts of the body
7.Full Articulated Human Skeleton
 
Museum is kept very clean by
        (i)Daily Cleaning of the specimen Jars & Racks.
       (ii)Daily Mopping of the floor with Lysol in water.
             using Special method.
 
Thus MUSEUM  is kept Very Clean”

Histology Lab is has

60 -  Compound Light Microscopes
05 – Dissection Microscopes

Histology Slides Charts are mounted in the walls of histology lab for study and easy reference to the Students

DEPARTMENT LIBRARY
 
Department Library is meant for both Teaching and Non- Teaching Staffs in addition to
College Library with Standard authors
Gross Anatomy Books Histology , Osteology Embryology , Clinical Radiology etc
Department Library is provided with Tables and Chairs for Comfort Study.
        
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
 
1. Motivation to Donate Bodies after life.
2. Motivation to Donate Blood.
3. Motivation to Donate Eyes.
4. Motivation to Donate Stem Cells.
        (in Association with Private Organizations “also”.)
 
VOLUNTARY BODY DONATION ACTIVITY
 
We motivate the Persons to Donate their Bodies after life.
If the bodies are donated it will be” useful for
Medical Education and Research”.
                  Voluntary Body Donors are Registered only after
HIV & HEPATITIS - B is negative for them in the blood .
 
For these Registered Voluntary Body Donors we used to give “IDENTITY CARD”  and “CERTIFICATE” of Voluntary Body Donation  and appreciation.

To these “Voluntary Body Donors” we ask
